Hills and Beautiful Weather - Kinston to Seven Springs in Pictures
Posted by Duke Homestead on Monday, May 18, 2015
After the heat of the second day, everyone was relieved to wake up and find it nice and cool outside. It was going to be a lovely walk to Seven Springs. Philip and the support team started out the day with a farewell breakfast at the G.I. Joe Military Museum - a museum founded by the same veterans who spent the past day and a half with Philip. It was a lovely send off that included a gift of a handmade pair of socks. Philip began this part of his journey with Andrew Duppstadt of NC State Historic Sites.
After Philip and Andrew had gotten on their way, the support team discovered that the walk made the front page of the Kinston Free Press!
Coming into lunch, Philip gave the support team a tutorial in eating MREs (Meal Ready to Eat). Some of the support team remain skeptical of how good they taste.
One thing Philip had to report at lunch was that many people were stopping their cars to ask him about his walk, so the support team scrambled to produce some quick cards with the information about the walk. At the end of the day, Philip had already handed quite a few out.
They day ended with camping out at Cliffs of the Neuse State Park.
